About Us

The Yellowknife Skating Club (YKSC) was founded on December 11th, 1968 and has since been teaching residents of Yellowknife, NT and surrounding areas of all ages how to skate. The first Board of Directors included such long time Yellowknifers' as Mickey Brown and Ruth Spence!

YKSC is a nonprofit organization, sanctioned by Skate Canada and dedicated to the sport of skating. Skating is a sport that can be enjoyed by all; no matter their age, gender, fitness level or personal interest. We endeavour to provide the best program possible to your skater delivered by dedicated professional coaches with the assistance of Program Assistants & volunteers.

Our skating season runs from September through to April. YKSC is pleased to offer the following programs: Learn to Skate: Pre - CanSkate, CanSkate; Starskate: Jumpstart, Test Stream STARSkate & Competitive Programs and Special Olympics.

Our Board of Director’s volunteer many hours to improve and support the Club. Volunteer assistance from the membership for the operation of the club is essential. Board meetings are open to all our members. Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held every fall. If you would like to become a member of the YKSC Board, please let us know.
