Territorials

Biennial Territorial Competition

Territorials is a special event held every two years, bringing together skaters from across the Northwest Territories to compete, perform, and connect. The event features a variety of categories, including the STARSkate and select events for STAR Prep skaters.
All information and updates about Territorials — including dates, location, registration details, — will be posted on this page as they become available.

Who It’s For

  • Skaters in STAR Prep, STARSkate, and Competitive streams
  • Must meet Skate Canada testing and age requirements for their category
  • Skaters must be in good standing with the Yellowknife Skating Club

What to Expect

  • A multi-day event with official Skate Canada judging
  • Events may include: Freeskate, Skills, Artistic, Interpretive, and Elements
  • Advanced CanSkate skaters may participate in select Elements or Showcase-style events
  • Skaters are grouped by age and test level
  • Medals or certificates awarded in each event

Preparation & Registration

  • Coaches will confirm eligibility and event recommendations
  • Skaters must be registered before the published deadline
  • Participation may involve travel and hotel accommodations
  • Music and program elements must be finalized and submitted in advance (if applicable)

Club Expectations

  • Skaters represent YKSC and are expected to demonstrate sportsmanship, respect, and team spirit
  • YKSC may provide club jackets and coordinate group travel support when possible
  • Parent volunteers may be needed for travel coordination or team support

We do not send paper handouts or make phone calls.
As a volunteer-run club, we rely on email and online tools to keep things organized and efficient.
